Mobile Photography - Some Tips

Now a days mobile phones with camara is very common and popular. In all medium budget mobile phones the picture quality will be vary from 1 mpx to 5 mpx. Generally, pictures taken by the mobile phones are either too blurred, or dithered, or with a perspective distortion. By following the common rules, it is posible to get reasonably good pictures with these camara phones.
How to use the Phones to get good pictures?
All the mobile hand sets are light weight and easy to take pictures by holding with sinlge hand. But there is more chances to blured the picture due to the shaking of the phone. Its is better to hold the phone rigdly with both the hands and if possible to get some support to hands like hand rest of the chair or talbe etc which will help to get the sharp pictures. Its not recomended to take picture with fully stretched hands, take care to keep the hand and camara close to your body at the same time make sure that the picture on the LCD screen is visible. it will help to reduce shake while taking the picture as a result you will get sharp picture.
Composition of the picture: The mobile pictures are generally captured quickly because we have to capture something extra ordinary or very rare scene. While taking quick photos we cpmpleately forgot on the composition of the picture. We are taking the pictures to show some one else so should give attention to the copostion while taking picture either with mobile or camara. Any photographer will tell you that using the picture as whole – is one of the most important and easiest methods. Many people composing a picture often pay attention only to its center, the place where the object of the picture usually is, the rest of the picture is ignored. It is necessary to pay attention to the background objects too. One more standard rule is – not to place the objects of the picture right in the center of the picture. Placing it a bit aside from the center, you will add “spectrum” almost to any picture.

Light: Illumination of the object of shooting is often far from ideal. Full-sized cameras are equipped with a large amount of toolset for eliminating this problem, but the matter is worse with the camera phones. It is hardly possible to take a good picture under conditions of bad illumination; the reason for it is - automatic shutter setting. The better illumination of the object is, the better will be the picture you are taking.

Camera in-built in your phone is equipped with a flash light, such a flash light works badly - the taken objects should be situated at the distance of 60-90 cm from camera. For reference – digital cameras of the average price brackets have the power of flash light enough to shoot objects placed at 3-4, 5 m from the camera.

If the image on the display of your phone seems too dark or too light, try to correct its brightness before the beginning of the shooting. The difference on the screen display –used for previewing the picture – will be especially seen when shooting the objects colored high colors.
White Balance: In restrained terms, the fault of a bad picture will be not the deficiency of illumination, but the light itself. In such cases setting of the white balance will help. Skilled photographers to achieve this use white or gray cards or just pieces of paper. Not every telephone owner (where it is essentially possible) will have enough time for the process of correcting the balance at the variation of illumination, especially if the picture has to be taken quickly; this is why, the white balance, as a rule is set at the automatic mode.

The white balance is usually corrected by doing the following:
while shooting direct the camera to the white piece of paper; evaluate, to what extent the paper is white on the display (the piece of paper may seem, for example, yellowish); set the white balance so as the paper seemed “peak white”, as close as possible to what you associate with the word “white”.

Light Sources: Before taking a picture by a camera phone it is advantageous to pay attention to the position of the basic source of light. If it is placed back of the object which you are going to take, you will get the object too dark, if the light is bright, then on the picture you will see only the shadow-figure of the taken object. Having chosen correctly the exposure mode of the digital camera you can escape such effect, but you can not do it even on the camera phone with the in-built flash light, this is why the basic source of light must be at your back while taking a picture.

How to bring the object to the frame?
This is the one of the main taks if the photographer nad is depends on the talenta nd expence of him. How here I am discribing some guidline.

Distance: The object of your shooting shouldn't be situated far from you. The matter is that the absolute majority of the camera phones use optics with permanent and small focal distance. It means that focusing depth on the pictures will be small. If the object of the shooting is situated far away from the camera, then it will get too small on the picture. The object of the shooting should be situated as close as possible to the camera, preferably not far then 60-90 cm from it.

Selection of the right format
If the picture for print/web publishings high resolution is ideal but other simple usage like caller Id low resolution is enough.

Auxuto focusing: This facility is available in some mobile camaras like Soney Ericson K750i. In such phones the cama will focus the object automatically by half pressing of the camara button. After focusing the obejct as your wish by this way and compleate the shooting by fullpressing of the button. By using this technology you can selectively focus the object in a frame have multiple objects.

Brightness/ Exposure

Most of the mobile camaras avalable in the market have this opetion. Try to use this options.

Modes: Now all mobile camaras have modes like micro, night etc. Night mode is elf explaninable. You van catch the picture in the ratio 1:1 by using micro mode. In this mode you can use the camara very close to the object to take its pictures. How much close you can use the camara in this mode that depends on the type of the lense. You can try with different modes to get best best pictures.

Normal/Fine modes: Some mobiles there are two picture mode options like normal/fine modes. The pictures taking in fien modes consumes more momery but its gives high quality pictures.

Avoid the Effects: There is the inbuilt picture effects like sepia, balck and white etc are available. Try to avoid to use such options, that you can be possible with photo editing softwares.

Zoom: Manufacturers of the cameras for the telephones as well as manufacturers of full-sized digital cameras like to set forth the ability of the camera to enlarge the image. But if optics of the compact cameras of consumer segment are apt at least for any optical zooming (visual enlargement of the taken object by means of camera lens), so taking pictures be camera phone you only deal with a digital zoom.

Do not use zoom when taking pictures by the camera phone
Many people vainly try to take by means of zoom objects which are situated far away – the case is that using the digital zoom deteriorates the picture. Moreover, sometimes you can use it but only having reduced the resolution of the picture, i.e. the picture you will obtain as a result.

Keep the lense clean: Finally it is more important to keep the lesnse neat and clean. Use only the lense cleaner for cleaning the lense. In urgency may be you can youse tissue paper. Its not good to use the normal even soft clothes it will spoil the lense.

Kaarthika Vilakku

The lamp (Nilavilakku) reprsents the unconditional love and affection and selfless and friendly relation of Krishna and Rama. The lamp lit by my friend and his beloved mother on last Karthika at his home. The light at the left represents Krishna (lit by my friend and right one by his mother) and that at right is Rama. Sardaji-the diversified community

In 2004, when I was working as Scientist at Indian Institute of Technology, NewDelhi, my friend and couple of his friends came to Delhi for attending the Interview for Scientist B at Recruitment and Assesment Centre (RAC), Defence Research Develoment Organization (DRDO). They came by Kerala Express and I picked them from Hazred Nizamudeen Station to my appartment at IIT Campus. The next day morning I droped all at RACE centre which is 2 hours journey by bus from House Khas. After the interview they rented a taxi for local sight-seeing.

The driver was an old Sardar, and boys being boys, my friend and his buddys began cracking Sardarji jokes, just to instigate the old man. But to their surprise, the fellow remained unperturbed. At the end of the sight-seeing, they paid up the hire-charges. The Sardar returned the change. Moreover, he gave each one of them one rupee extra and said, (in Hindi, of course),''Son, since morning you have been telling Sardarji jokes. I listened to them all and let me tell you, some of them were in a very bad taste. Still, I don't mind coz I know that you are young blood and are yet to see the world. But I have just one request. Here I am giving you one rupee each. Give it to the first Sardar beggar that you come across in this city."My friend continued," That one rupee coin is still with me. I couldn't find a single Sardar begging on the streets of Delhi .

"Friends, we all love sardar jokes. But the fact of matter is that Sikhs are one of the most prosperous and diversified communities in the world. The secret behind their universal success, according to me, is their willingness to do any job with utmost dedication. A Sardar will drive a truck or set up a roadside garage or a dhaba, but he will never beg on the streets.

Canon Powershot-A710 IS -Medium budget Digital Camara

My Canon PowerShot A710 IS camera arrived today. As a medium budget digital camara Cannon Powershot A710 IS is the best. I used major branded camaras like Nikon, Kodak, Olympus and Samsung, but this A710 IS have lots of special features and is so user friendly. As compared to those mentioned camaras A710 IS is little costlier but it produce high quality stills and videos. The above camras gave video clips in MOV or DAT file format which can't be edit or compile the video with normal video editors. Normally in all work stations the Windows video maker is for video editing it will not decoded MOV or DAT files. To know on price and specification of A710 IS click here

The PowerShot A710 IS (USD 399) has landed at the top of Canon's A-series lineup. On the strength of superlative cameras like the 10-megapixel Powershot A640 and the image stabilized A710, Canon managed to sell over 6.1 million cameras in 2006, capturing 20% of the digital camera market and catapulting them to the number one spot over competitors like Nikon and Kodak. For more details click here

The Canon PowerShot A710 IS couples a 7 megapixel CCD imager sensor with an image stabilized 6x optical zoom lens that offers a 35mm-equivalent focal range of 35 to 210mm- a moderate wide angle to a useful telephoto. With a total range of 6x optical zoom, this is quite a bit more than most compact cameras offer, and the inclusion of a stabilizer should help ensure photos aren't blurred from camera shake at the telephoto end of the zoom. Maximum apertures vary from f/2.8 to f/4.8 across the zoom range. The A710's sensor yields an ISO range equivalent to 80 to 800, while shutter speeds from 1/2000 to 15 seconds are possible. See the video, what the magic can do with Canon Poweshot A710 IS.

Some of the noted features of A710 IS are. See the what is A710 IS.
1. There are captions that appear when an icon is highlighted to remind the user of its function
2. The hardware design is simple and easy to use
3. The software design is simple and easy to use
4. It takes wonderful pictures indoors without flash

The A710 is based on the A700 (surprise surprise), with its two big new features being optical image stabilization and a higher resolution sensor. Other features on the camera include a 2.5" LCD display, full manual controls, support for conversion lenses, and a VGA movie mode.
